This practice is involved in the training of both medical students and junior doctors. In August 2004 Dr tankel became a trainer in general Practice. This means that a GP Registrar will be placed in the practice for 12 months at a time. The registrar is a fully trained doctor who is about to go into General Practice and is learning the skills of General Practice. They see patients on their own but are under the overall supervision of Dr Tankel. Dr Owen and Dr Rafferty train Foundation doctors (FY2). These doctors are junior doctors from the hospital who spend 4 months working in general practice as part of their basic training. Consultations are discussed with the FY2 doctor's allocated trainer, either during the consultation or after the surgery ends. Some consultations may be videotaped but you will always be asked permission and are free to refuse. This will not influence your care. Videotaping is considered a valuable way of learning and improving consultation skills. Medical students are also attached at the practice. Please inform reception if you do not wish medical students in the consultation room. |
